The Emergency Children’s Surgery Center takes shape day after day. Resstende has been involved since 2017 in the design of the paediatric hospital, which will be a centre of excellence for the whole continent. The facility will offer free treatment to the population and will be a reference centre for Ugandan patients and children with surgical needs from all over Africa. Studio Renzo Piano Building Workshop designed the hospital structure in collaboration with TAMassociati, creating it according to the traditional technique typical of the pisè beaten earth, which is first excavated and then compacted guaranteeing resistance and stability. Everything revolves around the earth, which has an intense and ferrous red colour. The idea behind the RPBW studio project is to restore dignity to this ancient technique, using the same construction principles as traditional houses but in an innovative way.
“We were deeply moved when the last roller blind system was installed in the new building that will host the Emergency Children’s Surgery Center”, proudly comments Fabio Gasparini, CEO of Resstende. « The achievement of this stage is always awaited with trepidation, but in this case it is amplified by the nature of the project itself. A hospital that will bring great benefits in a complex nation like Ugandan. Every detail of the realization of the roller systems for the Pediatric Surgery Center in Entebbe was carried out scrupulously and under my supervision. Being part of this project as donors is a pride for me and for all of Resstende ».
The installation of 85 Resstende’s Boston 110 roller blind systems patiently awaited the completion of construction of the hospital. The Boston system, which is one of the Resstende systems designed for facades, is presented as an elegant motorized system with a high technical content, designed specifically for external applications on curtain walls. For this project, the CT110 round box and the round FD42 hembar in extruded aluminium was selected. The upper and lower fixing has been made with brackets designed ad hoc for this particular construction. Each system is motorized with a 230V / 50 Hz – 15 Nm motor.
The fabric identified by the architects is the shading Sunscreen Satiné 5500, with an opening factor of 4%, composed of 42% fiber glass and 58% PVC, it is fireproof, with excellent resistance to light (7/8) and good dimensional stability. The chosen color is the orange cod. 0909, which is well suited to the nuances of this land.
“We can’t wait to be able to personally visit this medical and health reception centre, to the realization of which we have contributed with joy“, concludes Gasparini.
