On the hills overlooking Alassio, L’Orto Rampante, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), restores the land surrounding Villa Levi and expands the Villa della Pergola complex with greenhouses dedicated to hospitality, agriculture, culture and education.
Inspired by Italo Calvino’s The Baron in the Trees, these lightweight structures reinterpret the traditional Ligurian terraces, establishing an ongoing dialogue with vegetation, light and the sea.
In collaboration with RPBW, Resstende developed fully customised solar shading systems, designing every component – from stainless-steel brackets and fixings to custom backdrops – to integrate precisely into the glazed structures.
“Every choice stems from the need to ensure high technical performance without compromising the clean lines of the architecture,” explains Rossella Gerosa, Resstende Project Manager.
The first phase involved the greenhouses dedicated to hospitality, with the supply and installation of external shading and solar control systems. Installation of the internal shading systems is now underway, while in 2027 the project will continue in the restaurant greenhouse, the Spazio Levi and the educational area.
The construction site itself also required solutions beyond the ordinary. Due to the steep slopes and limited access, the components were transported using small vehicles, moved by crane between the different levels and manually installed with meticulous precision.
With L’Orto Rampante, Resstende confirms its vision of solar shading: not simply an accessory, but an architectural component capable of enhancing environmental performance and creating a dialogue with the structure, materials, light and landscape.
